TYPE-II titanium anodising
Dark anodising for
optimised surface properties
Type-II anodising (dark anodising) is the optimal process for significantly improving the biomechanical properties of titanium medical implants.
Product advantages that never fail to impress
With type-II titanium anodising (procedure according to AMS 2488), implants receive a significantly thicker and more resistant oxide layer with a homogeneous, dark grey surface appearance. Dark-anodised type-II surfaces significantly reduce the tendency for cold welding between titanium components. As a result, an implant, for example, can be removed much more easily after successful fracture healing.

Colour coding with Recolor technology
With the patented Recolor process, previously dark-anodised items can be additionally colour coded. The design possibilities are practically infinite, allowing addition of logos, measurements, depth markings, batch numbers, QR codes / bar codes, etc., to the titanium product.
Additional advantages of the Recolor technology:
By using this technique, the advantages of type-II and type-III anodising can be combined in an innovative process. Technically critical implant areas are treated with type-II anodising to achieve the desired positive effects (e.g., thread areas). Less critical areas can be customised with multiple colours for identification or design purposes, significantly enhancing usability for the user. With type-II surfaces, partial colour coding no longer needs to be omitted! The usability of the implant system can be further optimised by marking the corresponding instruments in matching colours using the ART-tech process.
Manufacturing process – Quality right from the beginning
In the process used, the titanium surface is first cleaned and optimally prepared for the oxide layer structure in further process baths. Only then is the resistant, dark grey type II surface created in a complex electrolytic process. This thin layer of less than 2µm is largely responsible for the optimised technical properties of the titanium components. Using the patented Recolor process, the dark anodised titanium product can also be colour coded on request. High process reliability and quality ensure exact repeatability for consistent results at all times, even with different production batches.
Quality which is ISO-certified & made in Germany
As far as the development of innovations and production of high-quality technologies is concerned, the state of Baden-Württemberg has been a leading region on an international level for many years already. The administrative district of Tuttlingen has even earned itself the nickname of “world centre of medical technology”. We, too, consider ourselves obliged to uphold this tradition, which is precisely why our company headquarters, where we develop and manufacturer our high-quality products sustainably and dependably, are located here. In the field of process and quality assurance, we are certified in accordance with the EN ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 standards.
