TYPE-III colour anodising

Colour anodising makes the difference

With type-III anodising (colour anodising), the titanium surface of the implant is coated with a defined oxide layer through an electrochemical process. Depending on the layer thickness, various colours are created by light interference, similar to the effect of a thin oil film on water.

Product advantages that never fail to impress

Clear colouring means different implant components can be identified quickly. This reduces the risk of implants being mixed up during operations, contributing significantly to patient safety. This colouring process occurs in highly modern galvanising machines. At the customer‘s request, just parts of surfaces can be anodised (partial anodising).

Visual advantages:

  • Homogeneous and intense colouring
  • Excellent compatibility with laser marking
  • Colour coordination between implant (type-III anodising) and instrument (ART-tech) possible
  • Partial or multicolour anodising options available

Technical advantages:

  • Improved corrosion resistance
  • No changes in material properties
  • Max. layer thickness: 200 nm
  • Consistent colouring possible in internal cavities

Physiological advantages:

  • Validated process
  • Biocompatibility certified according to ISO 10993
  • Tested method for avoiding residues in deep blind holes

Well-Informed: Key Insights on TYPE-III colour anodising

Yes, when anodizing, your component is treated with a pickling solution in advance, which leads to material removal. Please take this into account when planning and manufacturing your products. We will be happy to advise you on this – please contact us.

Anodised parts are sensitive to contamination, particularly from fingerprints. To preserve the color intensity, we recommend handling the parts only with appropriate gloves.

We offer a wide range of packaging options tailored to your product. These include blister packaging, resealable bags, vacuum-sealed packaging, and tubular bags. Let’s work together to find the best solution for your needs.

The components should be free of grease, oil and other residues. We offer pre-cleaning for coarser soiling on request.

Manufacturing process – Quality right from the beginning

The titanium surface receives its intense colouring through a validated anodising process in state-of-the-art electroplating systems. In this process, the oxide layer of the titanium is selectively built up under controlled conditions by applying electrical voltage. The pre-set voltage at the rectifier determines the layer thickness and the resulting colour. The component dimensions are only slightly altered by the processing.

Quality which is ISO-certified & made in Germany

As far as the development of innovations and production of high-quality technologies is concerned, the state of Baden-Württemberg has been a leading region on an international level for many years already. The administrative district of Tuttlingen has even earned itself the nickname of “world centre of medical technology”. We, too, consider ourselves obliged to uphold this tradition, which is precisely why our company headquarters, where we develop and manufacturer our high-quality products sustainably and dependably, are located here. In the field of process and quality assurance, we are certified in accordance with the EN ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 standards.
