TYP-II dark anodising is the optimal refinement for significantly improving the biomechanical properties of medical implants made of titanium, for example. Among other results, this process produces a stronger surface and increased resistance to abrasion with guaranteed biocompatibility.
Due to the improved material properties attained with TYP-II dark anodising (Standard Aerospace Material Specification AMS 2488), the process is used for a wide range of products, primarily in the field of medical technology but also in industrial applications, in the aerospace and automotive industries and for manufacturing watches, glasses and jewellery. On request, only partial surfaces can be anodised (partial anodising).
Reduced frictional properties |
Avoidance of “cold welding” |
Optimisation of biocompatibility |
Improvement of tribology |
Increase of tensile strength |
TYP-II dark anodising refines the titanium surface leaving it absolutely even and resilient without affecting the dimensional stability of the titanium part. This considerably increases the tensile strength whilst significantly decreasing the coefficient of friction.
This titanium refinement makes it possible to avoid “cold welding” when using untreated titanium faces and easier to undo screw connections. Another advantage of the refined titanium surface is that it is difficult or even impossible for residues and foreign particles to accumulate on the dark-anodised titanium surface.

Customised colour-coding |
Absolute colour fastness |
Non-smearing and abrasion resistant |
Broad spectrum of colours |
Diverse design possibilities |
The innovative and patented Recolor technique allows additional custom marking of dark-anodised titanium products. The Recolor process makes it possible to apply a broad spectrum of colours to the titanium product in a wide variety of shapes and designs without modifying the physical characteristics of the titanium or the product. The design possibilities are practically infinite, allowing addition of logos, measurements, depth markings, batch numbers, QR codes / bar codes, etc., to the titanium product.
As far as the development of innovations and production of high-quality technologies is concerned, the state of Baden-Württemberg has been a leading region on an international level for many years already. The administrative district of Tuttlingen has even earned itself the nickname of “world centre of medical technology”. We, too, consider ourselves obliged to uphold this tradition, which is precisely why our company headquarters, where we develop and manufacturer our high-quality products sustainably and dependably, are located here. In the field of process and quality assurance, we are certified in accordance with the EN ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 standards.
In a process optimized by Viktor Hegedüs, the titanium surface to be refined is first cleaned and then coated with a special oxide layer. This dark gray oxide layer, which primarily optimizes the technical properties of the surface, is achieved by means of an electrochemical process. Following the process, the titanium product has a resistant protective layer. With the patented Recolor process, the dark-anodized titanium product can be additionally refined and color-coded on request. Thanks to high process reliability and quality, exact repeatability for consistent results is always guaranteed, even with different production batches.
